For years, a CMS solved a real problem: how to build fast, without writing everything from scratch. Mature ecosystems, proven solutions, predictable delivery costs. It made sense. Today, that equation is starting to look different. AI Assisted Engineering is changing the accessibility and cost of software development in ways that were simply unrealistic just a few years ago. Solutions built for a specific problem, without the overhead of functionality nobody needs. Sites that are faster, leaner, and easier to maintain – because they contain only what they were built to do. In this talk, I'll share what this looks like in everyday practice. Not as an argument against CMSs, but as context for a more deliberate decision: when an off-the-shelf solution still has the edge – and when it becomes a debt you'll be paying for years.
